Girls U15A v The Perse

The girls’ U15A emerged victorious after a highly competitive match against The Perse.  Beatrice Stone and Annabel Martine led the team by example, winning every set in style.  Anna Rachmann's serve proved a power tool for the second pair with her partner Rachael Freedman's volleying technique securing crucial points.  Sophie Cuthbert and Tabitha Carey's partnership proved an excellent basis for some creative play.  Overall, a well-deserved win for the Felsted girls.

Girls U15 A & B v Sevenoaks

The U15 girls’ tennis team gave a dedicated performance at Sevenoaks on Saturday. Although both A and B teams lost the overall accumulator, there were some excellent victories and gutsy performances.

Annie Martine and Tabby Carey quickly settled in to the game to win their first match, but struggled to beat Sevenoaks' 1st and 2nd pair. Anna Rachmann and Rachel Freedman worked in perfect synchrony and delivered power and accuracy with every shot resulting in two wins and one very close loss. Georgia Wilson and Anya Kruger had a frustrating day, with their hard work not reflected in their 3 loss score, every game was incredibly close! Overall scores were U15 A 3-6, U15 B 1-8.

Sevenoaks were a tough team to have in the first week back, but having the game has allowed the U15s to identify their areas of weakness to work on in training sessions. We will be paying particular attention to volleys and service, to ensure greater success in future matches!

1st Girls v Sevenoaks

The Firsts faced a very strong match against Sevenoaks on Saturday who were on top of their game.  Despite admirable enthusiasm and commitment from the Felsted side, they were unable to make much headway.  All players showed great resilience and good partnerships were formed between each pair.  The Seconds showed great surges of creativity in their match against Sevenoaks with Helen Spooner and Maryam Alseben playing some inspired tennis.  Unfortunately, despite some close games, Felsted were unable to secure an overall victory.

U15 Boys - Aegon National R1

Felsted’s Under 15 boy’s tennis team had their first round match of the Aegon National schools final on Thursday.  The Boys travelled to Chelmsford to play King Edward VI Grammar school.  The team consisted of Mont’s boys James Benbrook and Charles Broom, Max Haendle from Gepp’s and Ignacio Perez Olivera, also from Gepp’s House.  The format of the competition is one round of singles consisting of one set, and one round of doubles, also consisting of one set. King Edward VI Grammar school had some notable players in their squad who have respectable LTA rankings, as did Felsted, with James Benbrook and Charles Broom having a 6.2 and a 9.1 ranking respectively.

Felsted set the tone and took an early lead in all the singles matches and despite the high winds which made serving very difficult for both sides, Felsted boys held their nerve and were patient in the rallies, which paid off as all four singles matches went Felsted’s way.  Charles Broom disposed of his opposite number in a no nonsense fashion taking the spoils with a 6 – 0 victory, Max Haendle won his singles match 6 – 1 as did Ignacio Perez Olivera.  James Benbrook had more of challenge in their number one player, but he too took the points winning 6-3.The doubles matches saw more of the same with Benbrook and Broom taking an early lead as did the Gepp’s paring of Haendle and Perez Olivera.  The weather unfortunately turned nasty and the rain came down stopping play, but Felsted had already wrapped up the match taking maximum points.

Girls U14 A&B v Sevenoaks

U14 A: Isabella Minks and Georgie Stevens rallied well to win 2 of their 3 rubbers and the pairing of Lara Peck and Emily Butler gained in confidence as the match progressed  winning 1 closely contested rubber. However, the strength in depth of  the opposition proved  hard to overcome and the team lost 3-6 overall.  All the Team played with skill and determination in the testing windy conditions.

U14 B:  the pairing of Elicia Carrington and Kate Butterworth played with composure and skill to win all 3 of their rubbers.  Jess Rawson and Charley Moore also contributed  a win and with the match all square going into the final round,  Jade Kaya  and Francesca Moore showed great commitment in winning their last rubber which helped Felsted to win the match by the narrowest of  margins, 5-4.
